Apple released its new iPhone 13 lineup last September, describing the camera system as the most advanced ever for a phone. With this new device came a first-of-its-kind macro function for the Pro and Pro Max models, and a group of 10 newly announced winners of an Apple-run photography competition show what kind of amazing detail they can do.
The new ultra-wide lenses in the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max take smartphone photography to new terrain, meaning it can focus on objects as close as 2 cm (0.8 in). This shooting with a wider f1.8 aperture provides stunning detail and allows users to get up close and personal in ways you might expect for professional photographers with professional equipment.

The “Shot on iPhone Macro” challenge is set up to see exactly what these new phones can do in this regard, and the results are simply amazing. The winners list consists of 10 shots by finalists from around the world and offers amazing perspectives on the natural world.

Marco Coletta
Italian director Marco Coletta’s “Cave” shows the interior details of the hibiscus flower, as shown above.
“The enveloping petal shape, accentuated by intense shadows, made me think of a deep cave, ready to explore; by keeping the viewpoint inside the flower, I wanted the natural setting of the hibiscus to make us feel a full part of its beauty,” Coletta said.

Ashley Lee
“Strawberry in Soda” by American director Ashley Lee features a strawberry slowly descending into a soda bath.
“I put a transparent vase on my kitchen counter, poured soda into the vase, and used a piece of black paper as a backdrop,” he told me. “Then I dropped the strawberry into the soda pot and waited. Slowly, bubbles started forming on the surface of the strawberry, completely changing texture. I was amazed at the level of detail I was able to capture by taking a macro, as I could see the individual bubbles of soda that were forming on the surface of the strawberry. .”

Prajwal Shogul
“Art in Nature” by Indian director Prajwal Chougule Kolhapur is another eye-catching image among the winners, detailing dew drops forming on a spider’s web.
“I am a nature lover and love to go for early morning walks with my iPhone 13 Pro,” Kolhapur said. “The ‘golden hour’ brings the best of nature and delights the photographer. Dew drops on a spider web caught my eye, and I was amazed by the way the spider silk looked Dry is a necklace in which the dew shimmered like pearls. It felt like a piece of art on the canvas of nature.”
