What Model Is My Apple Watch?

If you're planning to upgrade to the newer Apple Watch Series 7 and don't know which one you have, it's important to know how to identify which Apple Watch series you have. Let's take a look at the best ways to figure out which Apple Watch model you have.

1. Look Behind Your Watch

The details of the watch are engraved on the back of each Apple Watch. Apple Watch Series, Case Material, and Case Size (in millimeters) are shown on the back of the watch.

Remove your Apple Watch and look at the back case to see the engraving.

To give you an idea, it says "Series 3.42mm Aluminum Case, GPS" on my Apple Watch.

Occasionally, you'll see "7000 series" instead of the words on the back of some selected Apple Watches. The 7000 series refers to the quality of aluminum used in watches. The first generation, series 1 and Series 2 Apple Watches are made from this aluminum. If you notice the 7000 series on your watch, it is most likely a first generation model.

2. Apple Watch Model Number

To determine which series of your Apple Watch is, simply look at the model number. The only downside is that once you get the model number, you'll have to look it up in the Apple Watch generation listings. No problem; I have collected them all in one place for your convenience. Find your Apple Watch model number by following the instructions below:

  • Open the Watch App on your iPhone.

  • Tap on 'General' in the settings list.

  • Now, tap on 'About'.

  • In the model area you will see a View for code that starts with MQ next to it. By tapping on it you will get the model number of the watch starting with 'A'.
