Xbox Game Pass Will Be a Big Deal This Summer

It’s been almost five years since Xbox Game Pass hit Microsoft’s consoles, and though some were skeptical at first, the service has proven itself to be one of the best deals in gaming, offering over 100 titles for an extremely reasonable price. Although PlayStation is firing up its own competitor, fans have been quick to point out that it still likely won’t offer nearly as much content as Game Pass. With new titles constantly being added to the service every week or so, Xbox Game Pass remains a worthwhile, relevant service.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Last year, Xbox Game Pass offered over 75 titles between July and September, with some of the best offerings being Death’s Door, Hades, 12 Minutesand Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Though some release dates haven’t been confirmed yet, this year’s Game Pass summer offerings look just as promising, with both a handful of big, and small titles heading to the service over the summer months.

The Big Titles Heading to Game Pass This Summer

redfall-key-art

While a good portion of Xbox Game Pass’ offerings aren’t announced until about a week or two before they drop on the service, there are a few big-name titles that have already been confirmed for a summer 2022 release. Of course, delays are becoming a staple of the video game industry, so Game Pass subscribers should take these release dates with a pinch of salt in a few cases.

Technically arriving just before the official summer period, Two Point Campus heads to Game Pass on May 17. Hitting Game Pass on the day of release, Two Point Campus is the follow-up to the surprisingly successful Two Point Hospital. Fans of the first game can expect a pretty similar experience, having to manage a university campus that’s been injected with some absurdist comedic elements.

Players will need to build the campus from the ground up, organize extracurricular activities, and manage student well-being across an in-game year. The predecessor’s light-hearted tone will still be a main focus of Two Point Campussetting the game apart from other city-builders and sim management games.

Sniper Elite 5 marks another day-one Game Pass title. Dropping on May 26, Sniper Elite 5 certainly looks to be another Sniper Elite game. With only a few brief Sniper Elite 5 Trailers released so far, it’s hard to determine whether it will be a sufficient departure for the series, or whether it’ll just end up being more of the same. That being said, Sniper Elite‘s general formula is up to a pretty high standard now, so while it may not offer too much diversity from previous entries, it’s likely going to be a decent game.

One of the big marketing points shown off in the latest trailer is that Sniper Elite 5 will give players over 200 different weapon attachment options, allowing the player to fully customize their loadout for the mission ahead. Sniper Elite 5 is also bringing a new Invasion PvP mode to the game. Sounding pretty similar to Deathloop and Dark Souls‘ invasion mechanics, players will be able to invade another’s world, and will be rewarded if they manage to eliminate their opponent.

Another day-one Game Pass game, Pac-Man Museum+ is heading to the service on May 27. A fusion of a business management game and a compilation title, Pac-Man Museum+ allows players to build and customize their very own arcade, and unlock new goodies by playing through 14 of the best Pac-Man legacy titles. Fan-favorites like Pac-Man Championship Editionalong with classics like the original and Super Pac-Man are all bundled into this unique collection game.

The next handful of Xbox Game Pass titles don’t have confirmed release dates yet, but reports indicate that they should arrive during the summer period. Arkane’s co-op vampire-slaying game Redfall is one such title.

With just one cinematic trailer released so far, details surrounding Redfall are pretty scarce. Currently, it’s confirmed that Redfall will be an open-world first-person-shooter, in which players can choose from four unique characters, each with their own distinct abilities. Players can take on the game solo, or can join up with up to three friends to take on the vampire horde. With the somewhat disappointing release of Back 4 BloodXbox Game Pass could use another four-player co-op title soon.

Though it’s mostly been showcased during PlayStation events, Trek to Yomi is heading to Xbox Game Pass day-one. This incredibly stylish 2D samurai game looks like the perfect blend of Ghost of Tsushima‘s purposeful and responsive swordplay, and a tight, narrative-driven side-scroller.

An isometric martial arts-based brawler, Midnight Fight Express is another highly anticipated game heading for Xbox Game Pass on launch day. For those who enjoyed the recently released Sifu, Midnight Fight Express is certainly one to watch out for, seemingly bringing the same level of brutal challenge to the table.

Having just received a delay, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is now confirmed for a September 13 release, hopefully closing out the summer Game Pass season with a bang. A 40K-themed successor to the Warhammer: Vermintide series, this game gives 40K fans the opportunity to blast their way through hordes of Chaos forces in thrilling 4-player co-op fashion.

Smaller Titles Heading to Xbox Game Pass This Summer

Floppy Knights

A few smaller titles are also heading to Xbox Game Pass this summer. The first title is Escape Academy, a game centered escape rooms. With over a dozen unique rooms to escape from, Escape Academy has the potential to be a fun little puzzle game that might not blow anyone away, but could offer a few hours of enjoyment, perfect for a summer’s afternoon.

A deck-builder with a playful art style, Floppy Knights is also set for a summer Game Pass release. Floppy Knights brings tactical turn-based gameplay together with card collecting mechanics to produce a hopefully unique indie title.

Branded as an “interactive movie trilogy,” Immortality is a live-action game heading to Game Pass in the summer. Developed by the same creator behind Her Storya title that took home the Game Awards’ Best Performance and Best Narrative trophies in 2015, Immortality follows the story of a fictional actress who has disappeared, leaving behind three unreleased movies. Players will need to use these movies’ footage to piece together what became of her.
