Listings on the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Network backend suggest The House of the Dead: Remake could land on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Reported listings via PSN’s backend and Microsoft Store indicate The House of the Dead: Remake will eventually migrate to PlayStation and Xbox platforms. House of the Dead’s remake launch for Nintendo Switch last week on April 7, introducing the classic light gun shooter to modern hardware. MegaPixel Studio developed the project, with Forever Entertainment serving in the role of publisher.
The two companies originally announced The House of the Dead: Remake in the spring of 2020, teasing a Nintendo Switch release filled with updated character models, HD graphics, and improved levels. Notably, MegaPixel Studio went dark for about a year before finally unveiling release date details this past March. Reviews and general public reception indicate, however, that House of the Dead’s return failed to live up to the standards set by the original experience. It’s possible that even more players will get to try the remade rail-shooter for themselves in the not-too-distant future.
Previously, an ESRB rating for Google Stadia hinted The House of the Dead: Remake wouldn’t remain a Nintendo Switch-exclusive experience for very long. Now additional evidence suggests other consoles will receive the remake in the future, as well. Redditor the_andshrew (via GamingBolt) recently pointed out that the PSN’s backend plays host to House of the Dead: Remake box art, meaning the classic light gun shooter could soon hit PS4 and PS5 platforms. Similarly, Twitter user Joey Ja’Crispy spotted the remake’s listing on the Microsoft Store, though the title was marked as “Not Currently Availableon Xbox.
As of writing, neither MegaPixel Studios nor Forever Entertainment has confirmed plans to port The House of the Dead: Remake to other platforms. The aforementioned listings via the ESRB, Xboxand PlayStation Network all point to ports being in the works, however. Should the apparent leaks prove accurate, there’s no word on when an official announcement will make the rounds.
The first House of the Dead game landed in arcades in 1996, inviting players to jump into an on-rails shooter packed with zombie-slaying action. A sequel House of the Dead 2hit arcades in 1998, followed by three more mainline entries that launched between 2002 and 2018. Of course, several spinoff experiences were developed over time, too, a few of which offered new ways to play the zombie-centric franchise. The Typing of the Dead, for example, replaced the light gun mechanics with keyboard-based options. Meanwhile, The Pinball of the Dead brought the horror to pinball tables on Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance.
The House of the Dead: Remake is currently available on Nintendo Switch.
