The International Photo Contest dedicated to competitive sailing innovates to improve its performance and relevance. Photographers from around the world will be celebrated at the Yacht Racing Forum on November 21-22 in Malta.

Launched in 2010, the world's leading photo competition dedicated to competitive sailing is proud to launch its 13th edition. Professional photographers from around the world are invited to submit their best photos taken between October 5, 2021 and October 9, 2022. The 80 best photos selected by the international jury will be published on the event website on October 20 and the winners will be celebrated on November 21 ( The full rules are available here).

New voting system and updated rules

A new voting system has been developed for the audience, which is no longer based on Facebook as it once was. Moreover, the rules were modified at the request of several photographers who insisted on the fact that only a small percentage of photos of marine boat races (Vendée Globe, The Ocean Race, Fastnet Race, Ultime Class...) are taken during boat races. The same is true for most boat photos: photographers have to stay away from competitors, which severely limits their creativity. Thus, the rules go back to their original wording, which states that "photos must reflect the spirit of the regatta and may have been taken at any time."

Calling all photographers

The Mirabod Yachting Racing Image Award allows professional photographers to share their passion for sailing and aims to promote sailing as a competitive sport to the general public.

All photographers are warmly invited to the Awards Ceremony, which will take place in public during an evening reception for the Yacht Racing Forum on November 21 in Malta in the presence of key figures from the international yachting community.

The International Banking and Financial Group, founded in Geneva in 1819, is a staunch supporter of this competition with which it associates its name. “Since the inception of the co-created Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award in 2010, we have received more than 1,500 images taken by nearly 300 photographers from around the world,” explains Nicolas Mirabaud, Managing Partner of the Mirabaud Group.

“The images testify to the rapid development of competitive sailing. They illustrate the latest technological innovations thanks to which sailors are able to continually improve their performance. They also showcase the sport’s greatest players, and the human factor remains dominant. We are very proud to contribute to the promotion of sailing and the images that this sport conveys.”

Last year, 126 photographers representing 24 nationalities submitted a photo for the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award. The winner was French photographer Loic Fiennes from Agence France-Presse. More than 15,000 people voted for their favorite photo, while 235,000 pages were viewed on the event's website.
