Police were initially working with information that up to 80 vehicles were damaged at a Honda dealership at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022. YouTube Tips ⓘ
Schaumburg Police received a report around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 of criminal damage to vehicles at Schaumburg Honda Automobiles, 750 East Golf Road Schaumburg, IL. Police received a tip-off that an unknown criminal caused criminal damage to vehicles in the agency parking lot.
Police arrived at the scene immediately, and were able to arrest a suspect sometime after the damage occurred.
An initial report from the Schaumburg Police Department indicated that about 80 vehicles were damaged. That report was preliminary before the exact account was written down in broad daylight Thursday morning. The smashed windows of at least 12 vehicles were seen at night from the sidewalk along the golf course in front of the dealer
Schaumburg Police were on site overnight with an evidence technician collecting evidence and taking photos for the criminal property damage case. Many of the car windows that were damaged were rear windows located in a front parking lot facing Golf Road west of Bloom Grove Road.
Multiple car windows recently sustained random damage at multiple locations in the suburbs adjacent to Rolling Meadows. Initially there was no confirmation whether the Schaumburg suspect was also a suspect in the Rolling Meadows crimes, or whether Schaumburg police and Rolling Meadows police were working together to investigate any contact.
There are many private security personnel who work at car dealerships across the Northwest Suburbs and Chicagoland, especially overnight. Some security personnel are highly visible in distinctive security vehicles with emergency lights activated with the characteristics of the merchant patrolling. Other armed security personnel operate under cover and are armed.
Many police departments have also stationed patrols near dealerships where dealerships have come under attack by car thieves who steal and/or steal cars from dealerships. The stolen vehicles, which have no identifiable links with the criminals, are then used to commit a variety of other types of crimes in Chicago, or elsewhere. Criminals often escape cops in stolen vehicles with little or no concern that the vehicles will track the criminals’ identities.
Initially, it is not known whether the criminal damage was part of a coordinated attack by criminals, a single or targeted revenge attack, or a random incident.
The crime of criminal damage was reported around 12:30 a.m.
